Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
